Aztec Opens Business Incubator

The HUB, Aztec's business incubator facility, has officially opened. On Jan. 10, 2017 the Aztec Chamber of Commerce provided a ribbon cutting ceremony, and tours of the facility were offered by Aztec City Manager Josh Ray.

The goal of the HUB is to give entrepreneurs the ability to start a new business on a shoe-string budget before they are ready to graduate out into the community, "or back to the kitchen table." Ray said, "After 36 months in the facility, we hope that the business owners will be able to graduate to a space in Westside Plaza, or Main Street."

The HUB building houses the Chamber of Commerce and has office and meeting space available to rent for people who join up to be "members" or for a small hourly fee. High speed wireless internet is provided, along with the ability to use computers, phone lines, printers, copy machines, tables and conference rooms.

Business trainings will be offered in the HUB, and one of the first will be held on January 15, at 2 pm. San Juan College's Enterprise Center will present "Work for Yourself @ 50+," a workshop designed for people over the age of 50 who are interested in self-employment. A common area is located downstairs, where one can simply use the wifi, or bring a group to brainstorm.

Three business offices are upstairs, and although the HUB hours will be 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Saturday, those offices have a private entrance and will have access to their office at any time.

550 Brewing is the first business to take advantage of the facility, and opened their doors on Dec. 30. They are a small, hometown taproom, that offers locally brewed beers. "You're welcome to come here even if you don't drink ... we have a coffee bar and non-alcoholic drinks, too," Cynthia Paschall said. The taproom is owned by Paschall Enterprises.

"Welcome to our community HUB, a space where dreams become ideas and ideas become businesses," the City Manager Ray said.
