Mary Jo Sarason

Aztec

Mary Jo Sarason

Mary Jo Sarason, age 88, passed peacefully on November 17, 2017. She was born in Aztec, to Onofre and Alvina Jaquez.

She moved to Albuquerque in 1954 and worked at Sandia Laboratories where she met and married Ken Sarason. Mary Jo was busy with a full time family while starting a career in real estate. She was a sales agent before pioneering as a woman broker starting her own real estate company, Unica Reality. In 1983 Mary Jo was appointed by the Governor to the NM Board of Realtors as a Real Estate Commissioner.

She was active in civic groups and always found time to volunteer with charitable activities. She loved to meet up with her bowling group and shared many laughs. Mary Jo will be remembered for her spirit of adventure, traveling the continents of the world with family and friends, a simple feat after frequent road trips with her five young children in worn out station wagons. She always saw the beauty in people, loved children, and nature and took the time to admire and savor both. She loved to "putter" in her garden and share the bounty and beauty with her frequent visitors. Her kitchen was always the center of activity, cooking and baking to welcome family and friends.

Mary Jo Sarason is survived by her children; Yolanda Sarason, Jay Sarason, Ramon Sarason, Katie White Sarason and Jerome Sarason. Her grandchildren are Gabriel Seitz, Nicolas Seitz, Darby Baley, Sage Sarason and Rhea Sarason and her great grandchildren are Zuriel Bailey and Axton Bailey. Siblings include Buster Jaquez, Georgia Lewis, Gilbert Jaquez and Dolores Jaquez.

A service will be held December 2, at 11:00 a.m. at the Norbertine Community Chapel, 5825 Coors Blvd SW, Albuquerque, NM 87121. Reception will follow at 1:30-3:30, the Hyatt Regency, 330 Tijeras Ave, NW, Albuquerque.

Thanks to everyone who came to visit Mary Jo, and for Hospice of New Mexico and to Cynthia Lovato, for their kind help and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages those wanting to contribute to consider donating time with a charitable cause and plant flowers in the spring in remembrance of her.
